To help you with the selection process, here is a list of five steps to choosing honeymoon destinations: Step One - The Budget You may not want to, but the first step should be to set up some financial guidelines around your budget. This is often an area that couples underestimate when budgeting for their overall wedding expenses. Be realistic. If you know that you will only be happy in a four star resort in Hawaii, then budget accordingly even if it means trimming some expenses from other parts of your wedding. On the flip side, you may need to trim your honeymoon budget to pay for a few wedding extras. It all depends on what is most important to you, and this is also assuming that you are paying for both. Again, be realistic to avoid any unneeded debt or buyers remorse. Step Two - What Type of Honeymoon? Are you a couple that enjoys sitting on the beach soaking up the sun, or are you looking for some adventure on your honeymoon? Try to mentally picture how you want to spend your honeymoon.
If you want to use this time to relax and connect with your new spouse, think about choosing an all-inclusive beach resort. It will allow you to relax on the beach all day while sipping tropical drinks with those cute little umbrellas. For the more adventurous, there are many options. You can go on an African safari, hike the outback in Australia or ski the Alps. Once you have a general idea of the type of honeymoon you can start breaking it down further. For example a relaxing honeymoon doesn't have to be at a hotel in Mexico. It can be on a cruise or a rented European villa. Step Three - Narrow Down The Location Once you know the type of honeymoon you desire you can start narrowing down possible locations. If you are looking for a warm beach your initial list might include Hawaii, Caribbean islands, Mexico and the South of France. Or, Africa, Asia or Europe might be on your list for an adventurous honeymoon. Try to come up with a short list of general areas. In the next step you will get a little more specific. Step Four - Research, Research, Research This is the step where you might want to consider asking for help. A skilled travel agent will be able to take your information based on the questions above and come up with possible choices for you. Often the money spent on the services of a travel agent are easily recouped from the advice and guidance that they provide. Doing it yourself is also an option, and there is a wealth of information online that can help with your research. For each of the general areas identified in the previous step, start looking at specific areas like Aruba in the Caribbean or Italy in Europe. Read website reviews of possible resorts and locations. Keep what is important to you in mind when reading reviews, and always look at the reviews as a whole. Don't let one person’s bad review totally influence you as some people are never happy. Again, narrow down your choices based on required amenities and locations. Try to get your list down to three to five possible choices. Step Five - Pick Your Spot Once the research is done and you have your short list the time comes to make a choice. If you are working with a travel agent, ask them to provide you a short list of possible spots. When you feel confident make your choice and start packing!
