Post Wedding Reception Ideas
To Keep The Party Going

A post wedding reception can mean two different things. It can mean the after-party held right after your wedding reception, or it can mean a delayed reception some time after your real wedding ceremony.

Either way, it can and should be a lot of fun (and drinks) for you and your guests. Below are a few ideas for you to work with for both options.

The After Party

When your reception ends, it doesn't mean the party has to stop. It is common for couples to arrange a post wedding reception party that allows the fun to continue well after your reception is over.

This will give you and your guests extra time to spend together, especially if there are many people who haven't seen each other in a long time. If there are a lot of out of town guests attending your wedding, consider holding the after party at the hotel where your guests are staying.

Many hotels have bars or nightclubs that are very willing to host this type of party. Or, consider renting out a large suite at the hotel and have it stocked with your choice of favorite beverages.

If you are expecting a large group for the after party, you may want to alert the location you choose that you and your wedding guests will be coming. Ask if there is any way to reserve seating or sections of the bar for you and your guests, and also ask if there are any drink specials that they can offer.

It doesn't have to be a formal gathering, but if the location usually gets crowded it is a good idea to call ahead.

The Delayed Reception

Many couples who elope or have destination weddings choose to have a post wedding reception for guests that could not attend the actual ceremony. Since these types of weddings are typically small and may not involve anyone other than the two of you, it can be a good idea to have a delayed reception as a way to celebrate your new marriage with friends and family.

Another reason to have one may be that you are ready to get married, but you may not be ready to pay for a large reception. Instead of delaying your marriage, just delay your reception until you have the funds to have the celebration that you desire.

A delayed wedding reception can be as big or as small as you like. Perhaps you had a very small reception immediately after you had your wedding ceremony, and now you want to go all out with a grand celebration.

A nice option is a cocktail wedding reception or any type of small wedding reception. Locations can be just about anywhere, like your favorite restaurant, a reception hall, an elegant inn or even a friend’s private home.
