Wedding Speech Protocol

At the wedding reception, does a representative of the groom speak first with a representative of the bride speaking last?

Our Thoughts

It is traditional for who ever is hosting the wedding reception, i.e. the bride’s parents, to welcome everyone to the big event and to say anything they would like to say at that time to the newlyweds.

If the hosts do not want to deliver a welcome or speech, then tradition normally follows as such; a blessing over the meal by a clergymen, spiritual person or a cherished family member, followed by the Best Man’s speech and the Maid of Honor Speech as well.

The bridal couple can also at some point in the evening make a small wedding speech and thank their honored guests and close friends for helping make their day so joyful and amazing.

Danielle
