When can I remove my hat, and do the guests follow my lead? Does my buttonhole face up or down?

Our Thoughts

Traditional etiquette for a formal event states that guests will wait to remove their hats until after you remove your hat. This is traditionally done after the meal along with the men removing their jackets.

If the event is less formal, it is OK to remove your hat after the wedding ceremony if you want.

Buttonholes should face up (with the stem facing down).
