Wedding Cash Bar

How do I let my guests know it is a cash bar?

Our Thoughts

Good wedding etiquette states that your wedding invitation should not be used to communicate things like gift preferences and the type of bar you are having at your reception.

The best way to get the word out is to ask your friends and family to spread the word. Also, use your wedding website as a way to communicate important information about your wedding day so your guests know what to expect.

In general we do not recommend having a cash bar. A better idea is to limit the bar to only beer and wine or a signature drink. This can help to keep your wedding budget in check while letting your guests enjoy your big day.

Open Bar to Cash Bar at Wedding Reception

My daughter wants to add an hour to her wedding reception but cannot afford another hour of open bar. Is it okay to switch to a cash bar as suggested by reception hall?

Our Thoughts

Absolutely! There is nothing wrong with offering your guests hours of drinking on the host’s bill and in the last hour switching over to a cash bar.

You should share this information with your guests on a wedding website before the big day so that they do have cash on them if they choose to drink in that last hour.

A lot of guests do not have more than $20 dollars in cash on them, generally used for tipping, so you may have some disgruntled guests if they were not made aware of this fact ahead of time before the wedding.

This is also a great idea to help stop excessive drinking and help to limit drunk driving as it will help very tipsy guests slow down and sober up in that last hour before hitting the road.
