Asking For Cash Wedding Gifts

by Lauren

My fiancé and I would prefer to receive cash for our wedding gifts, as we want to buy a house soon! I already have the china, the linens, and more kitchen stuff than is necessary. How would you suggest we ask for cash to buy a new home rather than a registry?

Our Thoughts
Lauren,

The easiest way to handle this is to have your family and bridal party spread the word that you would rather receive cash instead of gifts.

This is a very wise, sensible move in our opinion, and you should feel very proud that you are making a sound financial decision.

If people ask you where you are registered be honest and tell them that you are saving for a home and would prefer cash gifts. We would not recommend, however, that you mention this on your wedding invitation.

While most of your guests will respect your wishes, be prepared to get a few random gifts some of which you may like and other that you won't. Some people just prefer to give gifts.

To your wedding!

Money Instead of Gifts
by: Anonymous

Hello

We are actually going to do the same at our wedding as we have been together for a long time and would prefer to receive money to go towards our honeymoon rather than gifts.

We are going to have a wishing well.

It is a small well, or you can have a treasure box which will sit on the gift table.

I have written a small poem and added it in with my invitations asking people to give money instead of gifts if they want to.

If you type in wishing well poems on the net there are a lot of great ideas.

Hope this helps

Best of luck!

We did the same thing...

We had our family spread the word for us. Yes, we did however get a few random gifts, but it worked out pretty well.
